Note that it is important to restart tmux entirely after upgrading. This is particularly important when upgrading from 3.5 or earlier to 3.6a because one of the libraries that tmux uses changed its protocol. If you see this message when you try to attach it probably means you forgot to restart tmux:

open terminal failed: not a terminal

This is a bug fix release of tmux 3.6. The 3.6a CHANGES file is here and the release notes issue for 3.6 is here.

3.6a should fix a few problems with tmux 3.6:

• A crash when linked against a libevent built with NDEBUG.

• A build issue with utempter on FreeBSD.

• Allow the mouse to enter copy mode when in the alternate screen again.

• Fixes to scrollbars, particularly when used with a pane status line.

• Correct handling of Unicode emoijs where the modifier precedes the modified character.

• A crash and hang with malformed format strings.
