Sunshine Award

In her Sunshine Award post on Friday, 10 August Jo at Through The Keyhole very kindly gave me this blog award which is much appreciated.

I shall now answer the questions which mainly relate to favourites.

What is your favourite colour?  It’s always been blue, although it’s not my favourite flower colour.

What is your favourite animal?  I’ve always liked cats, and among the big ones the magnificent snow leopard is my favourite.

What is your favourite non-alcoholic drink? Without a doubt a nice strong, hot cup of tea with a dash of milk and no sugar.

Do you prefer Facebook or Twitter?  I’m on both and as with most things they have good, and not so good, points.  Facebook really does annoy me at times so I have to say that I prefer Twitter.

What is your passion?  When it’s raining there’s nothing better than sofa flying reading a good book. If it’s fine then plotting, pottering and pondering on the allotment.

What is your favourite pattern?  I don’t really have a favourite but in the past few years I have become much more aware of, and interested in, patterns in nature.

Do you prefer giving or receiving?  Both are nice.  I think that it’s good, and also important to try,  to give and receive in equal measure.

What is your favourite number?  Probably 0 (zero) for no particular reason.

What is your favourite day of the week? Now that I’m retired it’s usually Monday, which when I was working would have been my least favourite.

Rather than pass this award on to others I’ll be more than happy if anyone wants to do this and claim a Sunshine Award. All I ask is that you comment here to say that’s what you’re doing.

Brown Betty Teapots

Elaine recently pinned this elegant tea pot.

Whilst there’s no denying that it’s lovely to look at it’s clearly no good for everyday use. I’d guess that most people don’t bother with a teapot nowadays unless they use tea leaves rather than tea bags.

Mum and dad were both tea drinkers, and it was always made in a Brown Betty Teapot. We had several with the  4 Cup one being used most of the time.  Dad liked his tea strong with a dash of milk and two sugars, along with a couple of Rich Tea biscuits which he always broke in half and dunked.

I have to confess that I always talk about a cup of tea when it should be a mug, and I don’t have a teapot!

This wheelbarrow…

has seen better days as apart from being rather battered and rusty it also has a flat tyre.

A little gem

is a small A5 size, 70+ page book published in 1953 that I’m enjoying reading at present. It’s the story of  a sparrow, Clarence, that the author took under her wing, so to speak, in July 1940 through to his death over 12 years later.

It’s dedicated to Walter de la Mare,  who described this book as a little gem.

This copy, complete with dust cover and that lovely old book smell, is doing the rounds of some Allotments 4 All members so I shall be posting it on when I’ve finished reading it.

I don’t know where the intriguing title originates but hopefully an explanation will be forthcoming somewhere in the pages I’ve yet to read.

Second hand copies are available through AbeBooks should you want to read this delightful book, or to give as a gift to someone.

Happy reading!
