Fringe-pod is a slender, erect annual, pubescent or hirsute at the base that may usually be found in valley grasslands, coastal sage scrub, chaparral and foothill woodland to an elevation of about 5000' in most of cismontane Calif. �It has dentate, lanceolate lower leaves in a rosette and alternate, entire, lanceolate, upper leaves that clasp the stem with ear-shaped appendages at the base. �The flowers are tiny in loose racemes with 4 purplish white-margined sepals and 4 narrow, white petals, and the fruit is a round to elliptic, somewhat flattened silicle with membranous, radially veined wings that hangs downwards from the main stem. �Fringe-pod blooms in March to May and is a very easy plant to overlook.
