I‘ve always said (okay, well maybe never out loud): “if I weren’t an evolutionist I’d definitely be a Rastafarian.”

Well, it turns out, I can be both!

That’s track nine from the Origin of Species in Dub, “Light will be thrown.” Origin… in Dub is an audio/video mash up of Quotes from Darwin, dub poetry and some irie beats. The website even translates the rasta patois for confirmed baldheads.

I wish that I’d known about this video on Monday when I lectured on human origins to a class of leany, heavy-lidded undergraduates woefully lodged in summer session purgatory–perhaps it would have woken them up!

Doctor Klemetti stopped me in the hallway the other day.  He asked me about the traffic at my blog.  Well, you can imagine.  I joked that microecos was the Jandek of science blogs, a quip I’d been saving up for a while.  Well, you can imagine.

Anyway, turns out that the good doctor has started up a blog of his own: Eruptions – a blog devoted to the weak magmatic protests of our eminently rapable planet.  Ooh, I’m “shaking”…

I command microecos readers, all four of you, to go check it out!  Now!

A less than auspicious return? This week’s ETH is, to paraphrase some dead French dude, neither enigmatic nor Triassic nor a hellasaur. Rather, to quote some living American dudes, it is “one of the most familiar genera of Late Cretaceous dinosaurs” (Goodwin et al. 2006). That’s right it’s the infamous baby trike/fuel efficient jesus horse on display outside UCMP.

So what is it doing here? Um, I don’t really know except that I think the title “Blitkrieg Baby Bop” is totally hilarious. Fulfilling an ancient vow, I snapped the top photo on my recent trip to UCMP to check out the raddest, most enigmatic, most totally Triassic hellasaurs of all, which I was supposed to tell you about today except then I got distracted.

Blitzkrieg baby bop….Man that’s gold.

I’ve got loads of half-informed opinions to share about ornamentation, sexual dimorphism, species recognition and ontogeny…but uh, not right now.
