Eagles, Elk and Egret

Picasa Discontinued, Google Photos

Google Photos and Picasa with Great Horned Owl Photos:
This is a general post on blogging with some Great Horned Owls for company as you read all this. I think the owls make it more interesting.  It is really boring.

Elusive Redwing in Victoria

Elusive meaning difficult to find, catch or achieve.  This describes my relationship with the Redwing, the bird that has arrived here from Asia.  Oh it is not very far from my house as I am sure that it has flown here only to visit me.  Many of my bloggers and readers are from Europe. I am sure it is for me.  Problem is, we go there and it is ELUSIVE.  It is either hiding in the holly tree or up on the hill in the oak trees. Sigh.

Bears and Birds

This week it is Bears and Birds.  This fall I got way to close to a bear that we call Big Pappy near Campbell River. We just named him that as we have seen him so much. I had another bear coming by on the other side of me so the video is very short. And it was quite late in the evening.  Not on tripod, hand held so I can move fast. It is best on full screen.  He seems to stare directly at me at one point and I was a little worried.  I was not in a covered blind or anything, he could see me.  You can't crop in on video so it is as close as it was with the lens full out.  It shakes a little but overall one of my better captures.  I have several more bears to put in sometime.  I have about a hundred videos to do.  The top shot is not cropped.

There is a video below, if it is not loading in, just reload the page or visit my YouTube site.

much better if you enlarge to HD

Yearly Bird Review

I am putting in my yearly bird review of some of the highlights of the year mostly involving birds.  In January of this year we were all watching a leucistic Fox Sparrow who seemed to delight us with every little dance.

Also we were still amazed at the amount of Pelicans who came to visit the inner harbour and sit on the docks giving us many photo opportunities.

The Unknown Future

The future is unknown to me.  I am thinking of all the unknown things in life...the unexpected both good and bad. The future remains full of them.  There is fear of the unknown and also
excitement in the unknown.

Oyster River and Owls

I am so sorry for my absence from blogging as I took most of October off to rest and we did travel to the Oyster River a few times.  I will include below some photos of the sky at the mouth of the Oyster River where we camped near Campbell River, B.C.

Very Good Birding

We have been having very excellent birding this month here on Vancouver Island and Victoria, B.C.  The above vignette is of the Western Kingbird we visited up at Mount Tolmie.  It is "V" week at the famous ABC Blog Meme so I will find some more very "V" like words.

Also visible at Mount Tolmie was the vivacious and volant little Lazuli Bunting with its vivid colors.  It was very vocal with a lot of verbose calls.

Sweet Things in Life

              Smell the Roses
There are so many sweet things in life.  Life is just full of sweet things.  Is that why I am here, to see so many sweet, sweet things. I love the smell of roses in the spring time.

                                              New Life Is Beginning
A child posing in the flowers for me is so sweet.

                                         Strong Stems from the Earth
Strong, healthy stems on the tulips for me to see. New life abundantly
covers the earth, repeating its natural cycle whether we are here or not.

Something Red

Are you ready?  It is time for "R" at ABC Meme.  So we will look for "r" words and something Red.  Like the flowers out at Butchart Gardens right now.  It is so wonderful there. The tulips are really ready for us.
