This little caterpillar was rolling around on a path in the afternoon at Point Lobos State Reserve.

unsure of species
This is likely Lophocampa sobrina based on location. The reality of sobrina being a valid name hasn't been tested, but sobrina is the name given to the population of "argentata like" moths on the coast.

It seems very likely!
I also have a picture of this caterpillar that was taken without flash where the orangish colored tufts were more pronounced (I went back to check after I saw the pictures of Lophocama argentata).. The flash made more of them look white (though some are, even without the flash). Looking closely, it also has the longer black tufts on the second segment.
