Beech Bluff

In 2004, my wife and I bought a piece of property in Henderson, Tennessee to setup a facility for retired show horses. We're originally from the Los Angeles area where we both worked long hours, she in the horse training business and myself in the tropical fish import/export business. Setting up a horse related business was her lifetime dream but due to the cost of property in California, we looked in other parts of the country where we could afford to do it right.

In Tennessee I found myself surrounded with with all sorts of wonderful wildlife so I purchased my first DSLR and started snapping away. At first I concentrated on birds, butterflies and dragonflies. As I ran out of new things to photograph, I started in on the micro world and that's when I purchased a macro lens. Of course I needed to know what I was photographing and that's when I found BugGuide. Nowadays, I mainly concentrate on photographing and identifying moths. As of this writing (July 2013), I've photographed and identified 1130 species of moths on my farm and have photos of many more that haven't been identified....yet.

For the majority of my bug images, I'm using a Canon T1i with a Canon 100mm f/2.8 macro lens and a Canon 580EX II flash.
