Spodoptera frugiperda

Spodoptera frugiperda
Karnack, Harrison County, Texas, USA
July 4, 2014
Size: 32mm
Eggs were laid on Bald Cypress (Taxodium distichum) the evening of 06/15, but I have seen females lay eggs on most any species of tree with low branches bordering fields. The eggs hatched on 06/18 and larvae have been maintained primarily on Crabgrass (Digitaria species).
