I am pleased to announce that the Apache Software Foundation will be hosting the next North American Community Over Code event October 7-10, 2024 in Denver, CO. Community Over Code is the annual convention of the ASF, offering a chance for the community to gather in person and showcase content from many of the project communities at the ASF.

For more than 25 years, ApacheCon and Community Over Code have reflected the best of our projects and communities, continuing to champion the cause of open source development and community practices. Our flagship event will reflect this as we celebrate the 25th year of the ASF in 2024. Community Over Code will highlight ASF projects and emerging innovations through hands-on sessions, keynotes, real-world case studies, trainings, hackathons, and more. 

Those of you with an eye for detail may have caught a potential error in the previous paragraph. The ASF is 25 years old in 2024, but I wrote “more than 25 years” about the events. It’s no error; the first ApacheCon conference was held before the formation of the ASF in 1999. And while this is a fun fact to stump people in trivia, it actually reflects something we have been saying all along: that the ASF came together as people first, not as a foundation. It’s the people in the ASF who innovate, create, and explore new technologies, and it’s those people who contribute to the betterment of technology and the public good every day.

In October, Community Over Code will feature four days of sessions, focusing on topics such as Search, Big Data, Internet of Things, Community, Geospatial, Financial Tech, and many others. Each evening will also feature Birds of a Feather (BoF) sessions, where communities will have an opportunity for free-form discussion and planning around our various projects.

So, mark your calendars, Community Over Code North America will be held in Denver, October 7-10, 2024, in the Grand Hyatt Denver. Information on call for presentations, registration, and special room rates will be made available soon.
