APPLY FOR A LIBRARY CARD ONLINE
When you use our online application, the system issues you a temporary library card number, that may be used to place holds on items from our catalog immediately.
You are eligible to apply for a new library card online if you have never had a card before, are over 18 years old, and meet the eligibility requirements for one of the applicant types below.
Eligible applicants will be mailed a provisional Library card. This card is good for 30 days, but needs to be brought into the Library to be converted to a permanent card. A valid photo ID with current address is required for all library cards. If your current address is not on your ID, official proof of address such as utility bill, voter registration card, bank statement, lease etc., will be accepted.

City of Mount Vernon Residents
- No charge for library card
- Valid photo ID with current address within the incorporated city limits required
Online library card application
Reciprocal Borrowers
- No charge for library card
- Must qualify for a free library card at another library in Skagit County (Anacortes, Burlington, La Conner, Central Skagit, or Upper Skagit)
- Valid photo ID with current address required
Non-Residents/Visitors
(Includes residents of unincorporated Mount Vernon)
- Fee applies (cash or check accepted)
- The non-resident fee is $80 for 1 year, $40 for 6 months, or $20 for 3 months
- Seniors (ages 65+) receive a 50% discount
- A free 1-month trial is available
- Valid photo ID with current address required
City of Mount Vernon Business Owners*/MVSD Staff**

- *Business owners must have a City of Mount Vernon endorsement on their business license
- **MVSD Staff eligibility is determined by the current list from the school district and/or current school year MVSD Staff ID Badge.

Renewing a library card online only takes a few minutes. Please have your current address and contact information available.
If you are a non-resident and need to make a payment, you can bring exact cash or check with you to our curbside service, or mail a check to made out to Mount Vernon City Library to 315 Snoqualmie St. Mount Vernon, WA 98273.
