Dedication

We dedicate the fifth edition of Jasper’s Basic Mechanisms of the Epilepsies to the scientists and clinicians who contributed to past editions and are no longer with us. We have been mentored and inspired by them. Their enduring ideas and commitment to educating the next generation of epilepsy researchers are the foundation upon which the current editors and chapter authors assembled this volume. This edition continues their vision to ensure that epilepsy research arcs toward its higher purpose of revealing approaches for treatments and cures for people affected by the epilepsies. — The Editors

“What we do for ourselves dies with us. What we do for others and the world remains and is immortal.”

Albert Pike
