The UN refugee agency (UNHCR) reports that, by the end of 2025, Uganda could be hosting 2 million refugees. This is happening as escalating crises in Sudan, South Sudan and the Democratic Republic of the Congo have been driving an average of 600 people to cross the border daily in search of safety and life-saving aid.

The Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs warns that a rapidly escalating crisis in Haiti’s Artibonite region, where gang presence and activities are growing, is causing new waves of displacement. Nearly 15,000 people have been displaced since 19 July, the International Organization for Migration reports.

The UN Children’s Fund said today that an estimated 80,000 children are at high risk of cholera, as the rainy season begins across West and Central Africa. To scale up the emergency health, water, hygiene and sanitation response over the next three months to contain the disease, $20 million is urgently needed.

The World Food Programme and United Nations Children’s Fund warned today that, according to data in the latest Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) Alert, Gaza faces the grave risk of famine, as food consumption and nutrition indicators have reached their worst levels since the conflict began.

UN Emergency Relief Coordinator Tom Fletcher welcomed Israel’s decision Sunday to support a one-week scale-up of aid to the Occupied Palestinian Territory. While some movement restrictions seem to have been eased and over 100 truckloads of aid were collected, much more are needed to avert famine and a catastrophic health crisis.

In the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs warns the worsening cholera outbreak – which has caused nearly 950 deaths since January – urgently demands a scaled up response. The Central Emergency Response Fund on Thursday allocated an additional $750,000.
