In April 2007, Mohammad R. Sheikh was appointed Acting Assistant Director for the Department of Employment Services’ Labor Standards Bureau [title subsequently changed to Deputy Director] where he is responsible for planning, administering and providing management direction to five organizational components within the department:  the Office of Wage-Hour, Office of Occupational Safety and Health (private sector), Office of Workers’ Compensation (private sector), Office of Hearings and Adjudication -- Administrative Hearings Division and Compensation Review Board.  
 
Mr. Sheikh is considered an expert in the field of workers’ compensation and labor law.  He has been employed with DOES for more than 45 years carrying out management and supervisory responsibilities in the area of workers’ compensation.  Prior to accepting his current position, he served as a Supervisory Workers’ Compensation Claims Examiner in the Office of Workers’ Compensation, Special Assistant to the Deputy Director for Labor Standards, Acting Associate Director, Disability Compensation Program, and as a Claims Supervisor in the Disability Compensation Program
 
Mr. Sheikh received Bachelor of Arts and law degrees from Punjab University in Pakistan on 1963 and 1966, respectively, and a Master of Comparative Law from George Washington University in 1974.
