Tropical Depression Could Form

CLANTON – Tuesday, 5:30 AM, July 15, 2025

As of early this morning, an area of low pressure just off the east coast of Florida is becoming better defined, will move westward reaching the northeastern Gulf this evening or tonight and continue on a westward track.  There is now a 40% chance of tropical development and a tropical depression could form during the next couple of days.

Current models have this system moving west of Alabama and “potentially” making landfall anywhere from Mississippi to Louisiana Thursday or early Friday.  If the center stays on or near the coast, it will have less time to develop/strengthen.  However, if it moves farther offshore into open water, conditions are favorable for strengthening.

It is still too soon to determine the exact track and strength.

At a minimum, rain bands with very heavy rainfall appear likely across the southern half of Alabama from Wednesday through at least Friday.  Localized flooding will be possible.  Depending on the exact track, periods of heavy rainfall may occur across portions of the state this weekend.
