THE organiser of a plan to re-open the Keswick to Penrith railway in Cumbria will decide in the next week whether it has enough funds to proceed with the project.
CKP Railways, set up to promote the link, has received over 50,000 worth of bond applications from individuals and local businesses in support of the project. However it needs L1 million to pay for work needed before it can apply for a Transport and Works Act.
It will scrap the project if it fails to get anywhere near the L1 million by the middle of September and will return any money it has received.
Cedric Martindale, the project organiser, said: "We have until the middle of September until we make our first compulsory decision on the success of the bond issue. …
