FLINT, Mich. — A newly renovated early childhood education center in Flint is scheduled to reopen its doors with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Tuesday, July 22, at 10 a.m.

The Genesee Intermediate School District (GISD), in partnership with the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation and Flint Community Schools, will celebrate the completion of major facility upgrades at the Summerfield Early Childhood Education Center, located at 1360 Milbourne Ave.

The upgrades include a redesigned main entrance, a repaired parking lot, new windows, a repaired roof, and a boiler system—all aimed at improving safety, comfort and accessibility for Early Head Start and Head Start Preschool students and their families.

“When we invest in our youngest learners, we invest in the future of our community,” said Dr. Jodi Ramos, Early Childhood Director at GISD. “We are thankful to our partners for sharing this vision.”

The improvements represent a broader commitment to early childhood education in Flint, GISD officials said, and were made possible through collaborative support from community partners. The district emphasized that high-quality, welcoming learning environments are critical for early development and family engagement.
