Le persone che sopravvivono a una Grave Cerebrolesione Acquisita (GCA) e che superano la fase di coma e di stato vegetativo attraversano in genere un periodo di grave disorganizzazione delle funzioni cognitive, a cui in genere si associano importanti alterazioni del comportamento. Questa fase può avere durata diversa, in funzione della gravità del trauma e di altri fattori.
