The Foundation develops financial resources to support programming in the following ways:
Service Programs
Maine Service Year Fellows and Maine Climate Corps are programs that support young adults who want to serve their country for a year by helping a Maine community tackle a significant challenge. These programs give rural communities a way to further resilience efforts and develop awareness around urgent issues.
Leadership Training and Technical Assistance
Volunteer leaders connect to a wealth of resources from Volunteer Maine, and are provided with information on how to promote volunteer opportunities, offer volunteer management training. Volunteer Maine is also the statewide license holder and partner with Points of Light Institute on implementation of Service Enterprise. Service Enterprise (SE) is a planning and organizational change process through which local public and nonprofit service providers engage the public in skilled volunteer positions. Every $1 they invest in volunteer engagement returns $6 on that investment, having a particularly big impact for rural communities.
Recognizing Volunteers and Service Members
The recognition of the impact of volunteers and service members to the State of Maine, through events such as the Governor’s Service Awards and the National Service Staff Recognition Luncheon is an important component of volunteer retention. When volunteers feel appreciated and valued, they are more likely to feel connected and remain engaged. Recognizing youth service helps build confidence and encourages civic responsibility.
Cultivating Volunteer-powered Solutions
Maine residents know their communities and local needs. Public resources are not always able to support local volunteer-powered solutions. The Foundation seeks funding partners to grow youth service, disaster preparedness, and community resilience. Support to communities covers program development and service activities.
