Welcome to Guy Reed Ramsey's Postmarked Washington, a project of the Washington State Library.
Reformatted for the digital age, Guy Ramsey's research on the post offices and post office towns of Washington state is now made available to a new audience of appreciative historians. The data found on this site was taken from the manuscript presented by Mr. Ramsey to the Washington State Library for preservation microfilming in February 1966.
The essays are presented as written and completed by Mr. Ramsey, and have only undergone light copy editing for this new presentation. Some essays contain language that may be considered offensive and historical perspectives that may be outdated or obsolete. Where appropriate, librarians at the State Library have inserted updated research and additional context in a separate section.
The initial efforts of this project will focus on the thirteen Washington counties which were never published, and continue until all counties are represented. Our first roll-out contains the post offices of Whatcom County (86 entries), Grays Harbor County (74 entries), Walla Walla County (38 entries), Pend Oreille County (28 entries), and Ferry County (34 entries).
Now complete: the 81 entries that comprise Stevens County, to round out that upper right-hand corner of the state. The Postmarked team hopes you enjoy this new content!
