How can I fully remove Mendeley Desktop from my machine?

If you no longer wish to use Mendeley Desktop, you can remove it entirely from your system by first checking that you've uninstalled any Word, or OpenOffice plugins you may have installed. To do this, open Mendeley Desktop, and from the Tools menu, select any options to Uninstall the respective plugins you may have installed then follow the steps below.

How

Windows
  1. Go to the Start Menu and select 'All Programs'.
  2. Select 'Mendeley Desktop' from the list.
  3. Click 'Uninstall'. This will remove the Program Files directory for Mendeley Desktop.

If during the uninstallation process on Windows, one or all of the plugins fails to uninstall, you can remove them manually using the following procedures:

Microsoft Word plugin: Delete the file Mendeley-x.x.x.dot (where x.x.x is the version number) located in the following folder %APPDATA%\Microsoft\Word\STARTUP.

OpenOffice plugin:

  1. Open OpenOffice.
  2. Go to Tools then select ''Extension Manager'
  3. Remove the Mendeley entry.
Mac OS X

Ensure Microsoft word is closed. Open Mendeley Desktop and from the Tools menu select 'Uninstall MS Word plugin'. Close Mendeley Desktop and drag it to Trash to uninstall.
