How do I clear my cache and all cookies?

Last updated on April 06, 2022

In general, your browser tends to hold onto information, and over time it could cause problems with logging in or displaying pages. If you are experiencing issues such as slow browser sessions, http errors or other problems while accessing a website or resetting your password, it may be due to the cache and cookies your browser saves when browsing.

  • What is cache?

A browser saves elements of websites in a cache, sometimes referred to as Temporary Files, to improve speed when elements are reused on other pages or you visit the same site again later. For example, if a menu appears on all pages of a site, the browser will save that menu for quicker loading. Browsers typically retain temporary files until a space limit is reached and then delete the oldest. Periodically clearing out these temporary files might make the next time you load a site take a few seconds longer, but will also eliminate issues caused by conflicts with older temporary files.

  • What are cookies?

A cookie is a small piece of data from a website, stored in your browser to record your preferences and other information. Every time you pull up that same website, the browser sends the cookie back to the website with the saved information from the last visit. Cookies can have a defined expiration date, and can be cleared out manually using browser settings.

Please note: By following the instructions for your browser to clear only the cookies and cache, you will not delete saved webpages or login credentials. You may need to reselect preferences the next time you visit a website.
