Call for Poster Abstracts 2025
The University of Maine, JAX, Mount Desert Island Biological Laboratory, MaineHealth, Northern Light Health, the Roux Institute, and University of New England are sponsoring the third Maine research symposium covering biomedical sciences and engineering. This year’s event is scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday; September 24 and 25, 2025 at Hannaford Hall on the University of Southern Maine campus. Student posters will be judged each day, with award presentations on Thursday, September 25.
The symposium will kick off Wednesday with keynote and student speakers, poster sessions judging, and a banquet (must purchase banquet ticket during registration to attend this portion of the event). This will be followed by a full day Thursday with the theme on Aging, focusing on neurodegeneration, metabolism (i.e., metabolic syndrome, diabetes, bone, etc.), cardiovascular physiology, and AI. Integrated into these themes will be presentations on stem cells and tissue regeneration.
Authors are invited to submit a poster abstract no longer than 500 words. The deadline to submit your poster abstract is Monday, September 8, 2025.
Student posters will be viewed by faculty and students from a broad array of institutions and with varying areas of expertise and research or clinical backgrounds. Thus, students should strive to make their research as accessible as possible to this diverse audience and be prepared to answer questions and guide viewers through your data and conclusions. Faculty judges will be recruited from across multiple institutions and will be looking for a clear topic and purpose to the work, well described methods, results and conclusions, as well as assessing your presentation skills and depth of knowledge. Ten posters will be chosen from those presented for $300 and will be awarded Thursday September 25, 2025.
