I've been tinkering in my laboratory with ultra-low budget film making for a while now. Here are two films I made recently...

1. The Sun Circle is the story of a man in his early thirties who has stumbled into a good job and family life, but has become increasingly preoccupied with obscure Victorian books on mysticism, in particular one book entitled 'Sun Cirlces' which describes the existence of tiny stone circles hidden around the English countryside, alleged to have mystical powers capable of imbuing wisdom and understanding into anyone who lies inside them and recites an ancient text. When he comes across a picture of one in a walking magazine early one morning he can't resist driving out to find it.

The film cost around 300 plus the cost of camera (Canon XL-1) and editing equipment.

Running time: 17 min. Best appreciated on DVD on a TV!

2. Body Counting is a 'who-dunnit' set in a cemetery during the exhumation of a police woman, in order to determine if she had been killed by a serial killer of police men and women. Two forensic scientists and a policeman turn up at the exhumation tent early in the morning before anyone else, but after discovering the corpse of the watchman outside it becomes apparent that the killer is already among them.

Body Counting was made for under 250 with an un-auditioned, un-rehearsed cast, who along with a cameraman and two students from Chester College filmed for 22 continuous hours on a cold September weekend, entirely for free. It won best short film under 5K at the Salford Film Festival in November 2004.

Running time: 16 min. Contains strong language.
