The Adventures of Pinocchio by Carlo Lorenzini (better known with the pseudonym Carlo Collodi) was first published in weekly episodes in the first Italian children magazine “Giornale dei bambini”. The first episode dating July 7, 1881. The collection of the episodes was soon published as a book.

Published by the Macmillan Company, New York, 1926. Attilio Mussino (illustrator). First American Edition. Printed in Italy by R Bemporad & Figlio. (11 1/2" by 8 1/2"). 404 pages. This is one of the best and most profusely illustrated children's books ever produced, with color and black, white & white illustrations within the text on almost every page, plus numerous full-page color plates throughout. Present but subtle is the influence of “Modern Style” (Art Deco). A fascinating book to learn illustration from.

Attilio Mussino (1878-1954, Italy)
He is known throughout the world for being the illustrator of the first color edition of Pinocchio. With his drawings (starting in 1911) the portrait of Pinocchio was born.
Attilio Mussino started his career at a very young age, making humorous and satirical drawings for magazines. After the illustrating 'Pinocchio' stories,. Mussino soon specialized in illustrating children's books. At the same time, he was one of the first collaborators of Corriere dei Piccoli. He created characters like Noir Bilbolbul (1908), Gian Saetta (1912) and the young dreamer Schizzo (1915). After World War II, Attilio Mussino left the comics field to dedicate all his time to illustrating children's books.
