Ground Blizzard from Space -
A series of visible satellite images shows a ground blizzard across North Dakota on 15 January 1997.
Winds from the north-northwest caused blowing snow to take on a streaked look. These streaks are evident in
the satellite animation as lines aligned north-south. Extensive cloud cover is seen south of the blowing snow.
Note that there are no streaks in the smooth cloud top. Clear skies are indicated by the lake and rivers visible in the last few frames in the area behind the ground blizzard.
