Sun Welcomes Innotek

On February 20 Sun completed the acquisition of innotek, provider of the leading edge open source virtualization software called VirtualBox.

VirtualBox complements Sun's xVM virtualization strategy and extends the platform onto the desktop. VirtualBox enables developers to more efficiently build, test and run applications on multiple platforms. It allows desktop or laptop PCs running the Windows, Linux, Mac or Solaris operating systems to run multiple, different operating systems side-by side to more easily build multi-tier or cross-platform applications.

VirtualBox Open Source Edition (OSE) is available for download today at virtualbox.org.

"VirtualBox is the perfect complement to Sun's xVM virtualization strategy. Since its release in January of 2007, VirtualBox has been downloaded more that four million times. As part of the Sun portfolio, VirtualBox has the support of Sun's global development community, field resources and partners, making it even more appealing to developers and end-users." - Steve Wilson, VP, Sun xVM

"VirtualBox has become one of the leading developer desktop virtualization platforms. Developers are the start of the application life cycle and VirtualBox provides them with a free tool that helps them develop to multiple operating systems on their single laptop or desktop and provides access to a host of applications that might not be available on their base operating system." - William Franklin, VP, Solaris Core Engineering

"In just over a year innotek has built a vibrant community around VirtualBox. Since Sun announced the intended acquisition we have seen a jump in visitors and downloads and the response from the community has been overwhelmingly positive. The innotek team and its community is excited about the opportunities being a part of Sun presents." - Achim Hasenmueller, managing director and founder, innotek
