The Friends of the Eastern California Museum is a noprofit public benefit corporation which was officially organized on December 1, 1985. Currently, the Board of Trustees has four (4) Officers, eight (8) Trustees, and one (1) Past-Chairman.

"The specific purpose for which this corporation is organized are to function for the advancement of education and other charitable purposes, by the distribution of its funds for such purposes amd particularly to work with the Eastern California Museum...in the restoration of historical artifacts to aid in increasing the Eastern California Museum's value as a public educational facility with emphasis on heritage." (Article Two, FECM Articles of Incorporation).

Contributions to FECM are used to improve the Museum facilities and exhibits, to assist the Museum in achieving long-term financial stability, and to sponsor educational programs that encourage public awareness of Inyo County's rich and diverse heritage.
