salvador diaz-berrio fernandez Former ICCROM Council Member honoured for lifetime achievements

5 October. In recognition of his career and achievements in the conservation and restoration of built heritage in Mexico, an homage was paid to architect Salvador D�az-Berrio Fern�ndez last month at the at the National School of Conservation, Restoration and Museography (ENCRyM) in Mexico City. D�az-Berrio was a member of the ICCROM Council from 1983-1985 and 1988-1997.

Bhutan Official launch of RE-ORG, a new online tool for storage reorganization

Bhutan Himalayan earthquake

29 September. On 18 September an earthquake struck the Himalayan region, killing over 100 people and causing extensive damage to properties. In the wake of this event, ICOMOS International Scientific Committee on Risk Preparedness (ICORP) is gathering information on damage to cultural heritage and disseminating updates on its Facebook page. In addition, the Division for Conservation of Heritage Sites, Department of Culture of Bhutan has prepared two short reports on damage to cultural properties in the country.

Banteeay Chhmar Discovery of a gilded bronze pinnacle at the temple of Banteay Chhmar, Cambodia

6 September. The Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts of Cambodia is pleased to announce the discovery of a gilded bronze pinnacle recently found buried at the base of one of the Face Towers of the temple of Banteay Chhmar. The Banteay Chhmar temple complex is one of the most important archaeological sites from the Angkor period and is considered a national treasure. Efforts are currently being made by the Cambodian government to include it on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
