Nadine Schultz, Roy's mother, is born in Wise County, Texas.

Roy gets his first guitar for his 6th Birthday and the Orbisons move to Fort Worth, Texas.
Roy, at the age of 9 , wins a talent contest on Radio KVWC in Vernon, TX, and gets his own Saturday Show this year.
Roy played the guitar himself for his radio show. Each week he had to learn new songs to perform, and so his gift as a legendary guitar player started right here. The station didn't even have a microphone low enough for him because he was so young, and Roy had to stand on a little footstool to reach the mic.
Late 1946 family moves west to Wink, TX.
In 1949 Roy forms his first band, which included James Morrow on guitar.
Roy forms the Wink Westerners with High School friends James Morrow, Charles Evans, Billy Pat Ellis in 1952.
