The Major Announcements

This year, things got kicked off with a presentation of the Zelda Symphony and the announcement of concert tours which are still going to this day. After a smattering of 3DS news and game announcements, Nintendo got down to business, announcing the title of their new system, the Wii U.

A reel showed off the Wii U controller and its features like a touchscreen, accelerometer, microphone, gyrometer, and two circle pads (instead of analog sticks). HD Nintendo graphics were shown for the first time, including an HD Zelda experience, which showed up as a demo on the show floor.

A montage showed third party Wii U games like Darksiders 2, Assassin's Creed and Batman: Arkham City.

The Chase Mii and Battle Mii tech demos for the Wii U were shown on the show floor, along with a Zelda HD demo where you could change the camera angles and lighting. A version of New Super Mario Bros. (featuring Miis) in HD that ran on both the Wii U controller screen and TV was also shown.

The Big Games

  • Luigi's Mansion 2
  • Mario Kart 7
  • Resident Evil: Revelations
  • Kirby's Return to DreamLand
