Get Started with Red Hat Satellite 6

For a basic server installation, you'll need:

External Network Connection

A network connection is needed to subscribe and enable repositories hosted by Red Hat.

System Requirements

The system and environment must meet the prerequisites.

    Find the subscription pool to use. 

    # subscription-manager list --available --all

    Attach the subscription.

    Use the PoolId from the list command. 

    # subscription-manager attach --pool=01234

    Configure the respositories.

    Disable the default repositories to prevent conflicts, and then enable the specific Satellite 6 and RHEL repositories. This example uses RHEL 6. 
    # subscription-manager repos --disable "*"
# subscription manager repos --enable rhel-6-server-rpms --enable rhel-server-rhscl-6-rpms --enable rhel-6-server-satellite-6.1-rpms

    Install the Satellite packages. 

    # yum install katello
  5. 5

    Run the katello installer.

    There are a lot of different available configuration options with the katello installer command, depending on how you want to configure your environment. For more information, see the Installation Guide. 

    # katello-installer

    Open the UI.

    The Satellite UI is available by opening the server's hostname in a web browser. Unless something else was specified during installation, the default username is admin.
