History of Pine valley

I am sure Pine valley has a long and storied history with the native americans that most of us are not privy to, anyway on one of my hikes thru there sharing coffee with Jack English he told me that the valley was homesteaded or attempted to, he said they tried to grow grain, I was wondering if anybody could elaborate on this the possible written history or even something word of mouth they heard, can't wait tell the forest re-opens, well happy hiking to all
