Update on Gardiner-Pittard Building mechanical fault
Late last month Ballarat Health Services experienced a mechanical fault in the basement of the Gardiner-Pittard Building, which caused minor flooding. This flood subsequently led to a shortage in a power switchboard.
Works to repair the switchboard are currently underway and we expect to fully occupy the building by the end of May.
Patients from the Gardiner-Pittard Building have temporarily relocated to the Henry Bolte wing and there has been no interruption to the provision of patient care or services. Patients are expected to return to the Gardiner-Pittard building by the end of the month.
Ground floor access to the Gardiner-Pittard Building, including disabled access, has been maintained throughout the repairs, with only a minor disruption the day following the power outage.
All repairs associated with the fault are covered by insurance.
Celebrating cultural diversity
Ballarat Health Services (BHS) staff have celebrated Cultural Diversity Week by dressing for the occasion.
As part of the annual event, some of BHS’ 4,000 culturally diverse staff donned their national costumes today to celebrate multiculturalism.
BHS Learning and Development Manager, Megan Ali, said BHS was a strong supporter of cultural diversity.
“Amongst our workforce of more than 4,000 people, our staff come from 76 different countries, including Canada, France, Iceland, Kenya, Peru, Romania and Vietnam.
“We embrace people of all cultures at BHS, which is demonstrated by our culturally diverse workforce. Each year during Cultural Diversity Week we celebrate the diverse and interesting backgrounds of our patients, clients, residents and staff.
“Today is a great opportunity to celebrate the diversity of our community and our workforce,” Ms Ali said.
During the week, BHS also launched its multicultural cookbook. Recipes and stories were contributed by a ra ...
BHS and BADAC celebrate partnership
Ballarat Health Services (BHS) and the Ballarat and District Aboriginal Co-operative (BADAC) have celebrated their ongoing partnership with a unique cultural smoking ceremony to welcome babies onto Wadawurrung Country.

Aboriginal Care Co-ordinator, Emma Leehane, said the ceremony was an important step in ensuring all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families felt welcome and supported at BHS.
“Smoking ceremonies are very significant spiritual rituals performed by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. Today’s ceremony is to highlight the significance of our culture and welcome all babies born in 2016 at BHS in from the Dreaming onto Wadawurrung Country.”
“At BHS we are commi ...
