Blue Rock Ridge starts in Cachagua near the Los Padres Dam, quickly enters the Ventana Wilderness, and rises all the way to the Big Pines area at the headwaters of Danish Creek. But it’s not a smooth ascent. There’s a lot of up and down along the way. The “Big Box” fireline, created during the Marble Cone Fire and reopened twice since, runs along the top. The Carmel River meets the ocean
A Santa Clara County judge today removed the temporary injunction, imposed last November by a Monterey County judge, and allowed the much-feared Cease and Desist Order (limiting Cal-Am’s ability to pump from the Carmel River) to go into effect. Read the rest of this entry »

As enormous wealth lives always side by side with abject poverty, it’s no surprise that Pebble Beach has a healthy homeless population. Since most of the work available (making beds, scrubbing floors, blowing leaves, etc.) doesn’t come close to paying for housing, many people live in cars and vans, parked unobtrusively at night in residential neighborhoods. When a deal to finance and run a major water project is worked out in secret and only revealed to the public two days before Easter weekend, with the Board of Supervisors scheduled to approve it the following Tuesday (i.e. today), you can pretty much bet that someone is getting a bad deal.
