From Pepco:
“Pepco officials, including Samuel Williams, Vice President of Transmission and Substation, along with Nigel Rosser, Director of Transmission and Substation, held a virtual press conference on the 22nd Street substation to provide a detailed update on repair efforts following
“We recognize how disruptive these outages are—especially in the middle of a D.C. heat wave. We have more than 50 crews and contractors working to safely repair the system, working around the clock to replace damaged underground equipment, reinforce the system, and reduce the risk of repeat interruptions. We won’t stop until normal service is fully restored and strengthened for our customers,” said Williams.
Pepco has deployed additional generation resources in the area to help minimize the impact of outages while critical repairs are underway. Crews are closely monitoring load at the 22nd Street substation and coordinating with system operators to help ensure reliability. Large commercial customers have been asked to reduce non-essential energy use, while residential customers are encouraged to conserve energy at home by adjusting thermostats, turning off unused lights and electronics, and delaying heavy appliance use. These collective efforts will help reduce strain on the system and support faster restoration work.
