The Zoo’s New Crane is a Beast! Floridians are used to seeing cranes, but they are usually long-legged, long-necked, heron-type birds. However, if you plan on visiting ZooTampa in the
Zsa-Zsa and Ruka love relaxing in the water! 🦛
Pygmy hippos are mostly nocturnal, spending their nights feeding on leafy plants. During the day, they spend their time in swamps and rivers to keep their skin wet. This helps protect them from cracking or getting sunburned!

Our Hamadryas Baboon bachelor group is all for frizzy hair! As male hamadryas baboons reach maturity, they will grow long silvery hair covering their head, chest, and back - giving it a mane-like appearance. 🦁
You thought we were done with the nose close-up pics after this past Sunday? You thought wrong! 🤯
Sometimes we wonder if the curiosity of our Asian animals knows no bounds. Myrtle is one of our female babirusa and has been known to investigate those who come near her habitat - especially if they are wearing a Zoo uniform and have babirusa-friendly treats with them. 🥚🍠
Ceduna is looking super snuggled up this fine morning! 😴
Honestly, Ceduna is snuggled up and snoozing most mornings... and afternoons... and evenings. As you may already know, Koalas can sleep for up to 22 hours a day!
🐨 Have you ever caught our koalas on the move?
Hold on just doing a quick smell check courtesy of Albert, professional Malayan Tapir and smell checker (Perfumer). 👃
Malayan Tapirs have a good sense of smell and a prehensile nose/upper lip, making it extra easy for tapirs to conduct investigative sniffing.
More new friends at ZooTampa!🐣
Have you seen our juvenile Roseate Spoonbills? 🔍️ These younger birds are a more pale pink color than the adults and still have a feathered face! As Roseate Spoonbills age, they lose the feathers around their head to help with drying after foraging for food. 🦐

One thing about these three? They`re going to be nosey when it comes to their care staff! 👀
Our herd of Masai Giraffes have built their own positive relationships with their care team, making them quite a bit curious when they see them moving around behind the scenes. Whether it`s opportunities for interaction or hay in a hanger, our giraffes want to know what`s up. 🦒
Looking for a great tutorial on how to sit awkwardly next to some lettuce? 🥬
Njano has you covered! Njano is the youngest of our Red-Tailed Guenons and, while very much adored by all who know him, he is not known for being the smoothest of our guenons. 🐒
What do you think these two are gossiping about? 🤭
African elephants are super social and tend to live in large, matriarchal herds. Together, they raise their young, gather food, and protect each other. 🐘
NO ONE tell Brutus that we posted this photo of him. 📸
Or maybe do tell him, we don`t think he would mind. Luckily, Lowland Anoas probably do not have photo preferences. Although... we are not Lowland Anoas - so how could we know for sure? 🤔

Anyone else feeling those Monday blues after a long weekend? 😴
We hope you had an excellent Independence Day with friends and family. If you visited the Zoo this weekend, we would love to hear about that, too! Lucky for Lucy, the Florida Panther, she doesn`t need to log on to Outlook after that weekend away. 👩💻
