Wikipedia:WikiProject Deletion sorting/Israel
![]() | Points of interest related to Israel on Wikipedia: Outline – History – Portal – Category – WikiProject – Alerts – Deletions – Cleanup – Stubs – Assessment – To-do |
This is a collection of discussions on the deletion of articles related to Israel. It is one of many deletion lists coordinated by WikiProject Deletion sorting. Anyone can help maintain the list on this page.
- Adding a new AfD discussion
- Adding an AfD to this page does not add it to the main page at WP:AFD. Similarly, removing an AfD from this page does not remove it from the main page at WP:AFD. If you want to nominate an article for deletion, go through the process on that page before adding it to this page. To add a discussion to this page, follow these steps:
- Edit this page and add {{Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/PageName}} to the top of the list. Replace "PageName" with the relevant article name, i.e. the one on the existing AFD discussion. Also, indicate the title of the article in the edit summary as it is particularly helpful to add a link to the article in the edit summary. When you save the page, the discussion will automatically appear.
- You should also tag the AfD by adding {{subst:delsort|Israel|~~~~}} to it, which will inform editors that it has been listed here. You may place this tag above or below the nomination statement or at the end of the discussion thread.
- There are a few scripts and tools that can make this easier.
- Removing a closed AfD discussion
- Closed AfD discussions are automatically removed by a bot.
- Other types of discussions
- You can also add and remove other discussions (prod, CfD, TfD etc.) related to Israel. For the other XfD's, the process is the same as AfD (except {{Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/PageName}} is used for MFD and {{transclude xfd}} for the rest). For PRODs, adding a link with {{prodded}} will suffice.
- Further information
- For further information see Wikipedia's deletion policy and WP:AfD for general information about Articles for Deletion, including a list of article deletions sorted by day of nomination.
This list is also part of the larger list of deletion debates related to Middle East.

[edit]- Eliminate Hamas and bring the hostages home (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) – (View AfD | edits since nomination)
- (Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs) · FENS · JSTOR · TWL)
Fails WP:GNG. I have been unable to find anything that establishes that this political slogan is independently notable. A search in Hebrew yields no results, and the Arabic yields two results that do not suggest it is notable. There are more results for 'bring them home', but that is not a phrase solely attributed to Netanyahu or the Israeli position. As for a policy position, it is simply too vague a title. Other than the fact the slogan lacks independent notability, the actual content of the article deviates into other issues that are already covered by numerous other articles at Israeli invasion of the Gaza Strip, Gaza war hostage crisis, and Gaza war protests. This is a contentious topic, and I considered it inappropriate to PROD. Local Variable (talk) 03:46, 2 August 2025 (UTC)

- Delete. Proposed deletion is only for non-controversial topics. Past consensus has been that we have very high standards for slogans at AfD. Basically, we require significant coverage from multiple reliable sources, and if involving living persons, then the sources must be over a period of time. An example of a Keep is Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/The bride is beautiful, but she is married to another man, and of a Delete is Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Make Iran Great Again. Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Enemy of Islam ended in deletion, but was re-created later as War on Islam controversy. Bearian (talk) 19:41, 2 August 2025 (UTC)
- The article discusses the objectives of the war. Hauskasic (talk) 19:56, 2 August 2025 (UTC)
- Could you explain how that is not already covered in existing articles? If you look at the first one, Israeli invasion of the Gaza Strip, it says clearly in the lead section:
Israel's campaign has four stated goals: to destroy Hamas, to free the hostages, to ensure Gaza no longer poses a threat to Israel, and to return displaced residents of Northern Israel.
How does this article improve upon that article? Local Variable (talk) 01:27, 3 August 2025 (UTC)

- Delete per nom and Bearian. Paprikaiser (talk) 20:50, 2 August 2025 (UTC)
- I don’t understand what you're trying to say. What are the arguments Bearian is relying on? Is the "Mission Accomplished speech" article really that notable? Is the "The bride is beautiful, but she is married to another man", that no one knows exactly where this phrase came from? You're just opposing for the sake of opposition. A war has been raging for two years, consuming everything, and there’s hardly a single topic no matter how minor that hasn't had an article written about it. And now you want to delete an article related to what Israel has claimed for 22 months to be the main target of its war? Hauskasic (talk) 20:59, 2 August 2025 (UTC)
- Voting this way is meaningless and won't be considered valid. Wikipedia:DONTLIKE. Numerous sources confirm the widespread use of this phrase. If anything, the title should be changed to reflect Israel's war objectives. [1], [2], [3] Hauskasic (talk) 21:48, 2 August 2025 (UTC)
- Sources quoting the phrase is not SIGCOV, the sources need to discuss the phrase as a slogan (and the title of the article doesn't appear in any of those sources above). We could potentially have an article on Israel's objectives, but there are a lot of wars we have good coverage of and we don't have any articles on a specific country's objectives AFAIK (closest thing is probably Motives for the September 11 attacks). Probably because they'd be WP:POVFORKS, and they can be covered satisfactorily in broader articles where there's appropriate context (WP:PAGEDECIDE). Kowal2701 (talk) 22:36, 2 August 2025 (UTC)
- Delete: This article is a poorly sourced essay-like synthesis of various topics. Most of the content appears to be AI-generated. Helpful Raccoon (talk) 22:23, 2 August 2025 (UTC)

- 2025 Iranian exodus from Tehran (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) – (View AfD | edits since nomination)
- (Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs) · FENS · JSTOR · TWL)
Beyond concerns that much of this content was generated by a large language model (LLM), I have concerns that the subject of this article itself has been either hallucinated by artificial intelligence or is human-produced WP:SYNTH. Sources do report that many Iranians left Tehran in the midst of the recent Israeli strikes, but that's about as far as they go. Most of the sources cited do not even focus on internally displaced persons. This article purports that there was a mass exodus of Tehran residents on a scale "unprecedented [...] in the history of Iran" (stated in the lead but never elaborated on). The article gives a figure of 300,000 displaced, but that's the number of people warned to evacuate, not necessarily the number who did. It also appears that many (most?) have already returned since the ceasefire. Not a single source, cited in this article or not, that I have found indicates that the recent conflict caused an IDP crisis of sufficient standalone notability outside the broader war to deserve a separate article. — Anonymous 21:46, 1 August 2025 (UTC)

- Merge to Iran–Israel war#In Iran. I agree with the nom. This topic doesn't warrant an article, any more than Iranians hide in basements during war would. It's a routine part of war. There's some info in the suggested redirect target already, but more details can be added, such as coverage of the aftermath. I'm not including redirect as an option since I don't think the topic is something people will be searching for, and calling it an exodus is WP:UNDUE, as pointed out above. TheDeafWikipedian (talk) 22:19, 1 August 2025 (UTC)
- Delete. Either wholly or in part LLM-generated, this source is in the article: "https://www.ft.com/content/a29a0659-f7a5-4ba0-835e-19c24d66b487?utm_source=chatgpt.com". References named ":0" and dates being in the YYYY-MM-DD format also indicate LLM use. The article is full of synthesis and rather than painstakingly check every claim against the provided source it is easier to just delete it. TurboSuperA+[talk] 06:34, 2 August 2025 (UTC)

- Keep It is clear that most of those voting for this article to be deleted, didn't read the sources, including the user who nominated the article to be deleted. I rewrote the article myself, so the suggestion of use of LLM, is untrue. Several of the articles are very specific in the use of the word - EXODUS. Furthermore, the articles describe real events of mass evacuation, claiming otherwise is an attempt to bend the truth. Not mentioning the fact that one user didn't even take the time to check the sources. Just to prove my point, we are a month and a half after the events, and here are some more examples for the use of the word EXODUS:

- (Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs) · FENS · JSTOR · TWL)
WP:ONEOTHER isn't the most explicit, but I'm led to believe this page is unnecessary. Given that there are only two topics listed here, it seems that this page should be a redirect to the most similarly named one (Criticism of Israel), with a hatnote to the other (Anti-Zionism). Perplexingly, the latter currently has a hatnote to both this redundant page and another directly to Criticism of Israel. Why have an extra page when the two work just fine? Yes, there's a see also section here, but DAB pages don't exist to accommodate see also sections. Just as a brief note since I understand there's been confusion before, I'm aware that I could technically BLAR this page myself, but seeing as it could perhaps be slightly controversial, I'm listing it at AfD (with the goal of redirecting, not deleting). — Anonymous 21:14, 31 July 2025 (UTC)

- Keep. "Anti-Israel sentiment" can also refer to prejudice or discrimination against citizens of Israel. See e.g. Anti-China sentiment, which links to pages both about discrimination against Chinese people and hostility to the People's Republic of China. In fact, this page was recently moved from "Anti-Israeli sentiment" to "Anti-Israel sentiment" with exactly that justification. Anti-Zionism, criticism of the Israeli government, and discrimination against Israeli people are all distinct concepts. Astaire (talk) 19:15, 1 August 2025 (UTC)
- @Astaire, okay, but a disambiguation page has a specific function of linking to pages that actually exist on Wikipedia. There's no current article about the third potential meaning you mentioned. Maybe one should exist, but as it stands, it does not, and therefore isn't a valid reason to keep this DAB page. — Anonymous 01:13, 2 August 2025 (UTC)

- Delete: There appears to be one review of the book, under the "Critique of the book" external link in the article. I don't see any other reviews in my searches, I don't think we have enough to show notability for books. Oaktree b (talk) 13:15, 22 July 2025 (UTC)
- Comment. I'm relying on machine translation and could very well be wrong, but it seems like the external link "About the book, in Segula Magazine for Jewish History" is also a review. It's just a scan of a page and I can't find a way to access the magazine issue, but based on a machine translation it reads and is presented like a second review of the book. Hopefully someone else might be able to confirm? MCE89 (talk) 14:22, 22 July 2025 (UTC)
- Also noting that there was a previous AfD in 2021 under a previous page title, which ended in no consensus: Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/The Matter of the Jews. MCE89 (talk) 14:35, 22 July 2025 (UTC)
- Yes, the cited Segula Magazine page is a substantive and non-trivial review of this specific book, discussing its main thesis and explaining Berent's views of the subject as presented in the book. It might be not as long and deep as Dr Levin's review of the book, but it certainly qualifies under Wikipedia:Notability (books) criteria as a second review. Guybas (talk) 01:41, 24 July 2025 (UTC)
- Keep. The book qualifies under Wikipedia:Notability (books) criteria as having at least two real, non-trivial reviews, in respected sources that are independent of the book itself:
- Nine page long, wide and deep Dr Levin's review
- One page long, substantive and precise Segula Magazine review — Preceding unsigned comment added by Guybas (talk • contribs) 01:57, 24 July 2025 (UTC)
- Keep. Pass of NBOOK per above. gidonb (talk) 00:59, 26 July 2025 (UTC)
