The Asian and the Pacific Civil Registration and Vital Statistics (CRVS) Decade (2015-2024) is dedicated to achieving universal and responsive CRVS systems for everyone.
Civil Registration and Vital Statistics (CRVS) systems are essential for inclusive development, ensuring individuals can access rights and services while providing governments with critical data to inform policy. However, a critical gap remains in research capacity within this field. To address this, the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), in collaboration with the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), is conducting the CRVS Applied Research and Training (CART) initiative.
The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), in collaboration with the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), will organize the second CRVS Research Forum on 30 March - 1 April 2026 in Bangkok, Thailand.
The CART hosted its second live session featuring Professor Tom Moultrie, who presented his research on demographic analysis in low- and middle-income countries. The session focused on various uses of CRVS data to inform population studies and system strengthening.

Outcomes of the Third Ministerial Conference on Civil Registration and Vital Statistics in Asia and the Pacific
This self-paced e-learning course is designed to help national civil registration and vital statistics stakeholders build practical skills in cleaning and preparing birth and death registration data for the production of vital statistics. Through interactive modules and demonstrations in MS Excel (with equivalent syntax provided in Stata, SAS, and R), learners will gain hands-on experience in identifying data quality issues, standardizing data entries, creating new variables and tabulating data by key characteristics.
