Any Difference

[edit source]

What is the real difference between Wikipedia and Wikibooks? --Sterwick (talk) 05:58, 12 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

A listing of differences can be found at Help:Wikibooks for Wikimedians. -- Adrignola talk contribs 14:48, 12 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Metric Kitchen

[edit source]

First and forth most there are only .3 billion Americans there are over 6.4 billion Metric users in the World. America was suppose to Metric in 2000, thanks to a back-boneless Congress, who went back on their own law. Wikibooks is only perpetrating the continued use of IMPERIAL MEASUREMENTS and the non-use of Metric in its current form, and to only a small population of the World. Are Americans the only ones reading your Wikibook (or Textbook)?? You can not teach or get use to Metric if you do not use it, American Cooks Included. There are .3 billion Americans vs. 6.4 billion Metric Users (talk) 15:56, 19 December 2009 (UTC)MetricCookReply

I see you have added lots of comments to ancient (2 / 3 year old) discussions in the archives - nobody is likely to read them. Your best bet is to start a discussion on the project page (not here on the talk page). Nobody is forcing anybody to put imperial or metric measurements anywhere. If the author wishes to use imperial, that's their decision and if someone else (you, say) want to come along later and change them to metric or add additional metric commentary then go right ahead. By the way, imperial measures are still pretty widespread in the UK too possibly because people who actually cook tend to be the older generation. Unusual? While the original comments could have been worded better I agree with the points entirely. I know that nobody is forcing anybody to put imperial or metric measurements anywhere but that's the point - we should! Wikimedia projects are targeted towards an international audience and metric measurements should always be used with imperial measurements in parenthesis if necessary. A scientific, geographic or cookbook page which only uses imperial units is a waste of space in my opinion. --ЗAНИA talk 22:20, 21 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
Just realised that I've replied to a 3.5 year old comment. Didn't realise I was looking at the Talk Page. A notice when editing talk pages like this would be a good idea to warn people off telling them that their comment might never be read if it's not in the right place!--ЗAНИA talk 22:30, 21 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

Archive old discussions quick

[edit source]

That reconfigure Wikbooks section is getting too long. The whole page will be too big so maybe some threads should be archived first. Kayau ( talk | email | contribs ) 14:37, 1 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

My Introduction...

[edit source]

This is Dr. Marco Bitetto, I got my doctoral degree in Robotics (machines that learn by example) from Union Institute in 1994. Before that I studied Computer Systems Engineering and minored in Mathematics, in particular "Chaos Theory", receiving a Bachelor's of Science Degree from the State University of New York, 1991. I've built and programmed computers since I was thirteen. I've designed and built robots for numerous functions.

My interests: robotics, control systems, artificial intelligence, chaos theory, fractal geometry, game theory and electronically based disability aids. I can also offer technical assistance to anyone writing a text book on the above subjects.

It might fit better on Drmarcobitetto.--Collingwood (discusscontribs) 19:06, 18 August 2012 (UTC)Reply
Actually, Drmarcobitetto, you probably meant to put this in the general reading room, so you missed it by that much: this is the talk page of the general reading room. The reading room itself is here. --Pi zero (discusscontribs) 12:10, 19 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

Hello. My name is Daemon. I am getting back into programming using Basic after a thirty + year hiatus. My skills come from a C-64 platform back in the 80's. I recently acquired a TI-84 Plus and decided to try my hand at it again. My skills are a bit rusty. Learning all over again. I forgot how complex Basic is in It's simplicity. I know, C-64 dates my knowledge, but I have access to more modern equipment so I am learning Basic all over again. Thank you for adding me to your group. GOTO 1 ;-) Daemon Whitebeard (discusscontribs) 18:09, 28 December 2020 (UTC)Reply

Linking websites to wikibook project

[edit source]

Hello,

I just wanting to know how to link websites to back up points to my wikibook project? Is it in the same way that you would link in a normal Wikipedia project?

Hi there, new to creating a Wikibook :) Just wondering if there is a certain way to link a Wikipedia page in a Wikibook other than an external link? Thanks Lyndzcmedia (discusscontribs) 13:23, 16 February 2016 (UTC)Reply

@Lyndzcmedia: I've added something about this to the Wiki-Marup chapter of book Using Wikibooks. --Pi zero (discusscontribs) 14:33, 16 February 2016 (UTC)Reply

Author of academic work would like to donate

[edit source]

I am the sole author of an academic book which I would like to donate to Wikibooks. I'm not sure about the conversion / donation process, and am wondering if someone might be able to help. The book is already listed in a Published Works section on a Wikipedia article. Jessewaugh (discusscontribs) 10:31, 22 August 2016 (UTC)Reply

Thank you, ideally the book must be posted in wikicode, and there is a process for that here: commons:Commons:Convert tables and charts to wiki code or image files.
However it could also be uploaded in PDF on Commons. JackPotte (discusscontribs) 11:47, 22 August 2016 (UTC)Reply
@Jessewaugh: If you need help, you can email me directly (the "M" in my signature). —Justin (koavf)TCM 13:36, 22 August 2016 (UTC)Reply

@Justin Thanks very much - I will email you. Jessewaugh (discusscontribs) 19:27, 22 August 2016 (UTC)Reply

I could check the 24 pages of your "manifesto" from the link you gave into User talk:Jessewaugh, and actually I believe that it's more likely an essay, an original work for the Wikiversity, than a pedagogic book for here. JackPotte (discusscontribs) 12:30, 23 August 2016 (UTC)Reply

Okay thanks very much. I was not aware of Wikiversity. Jessewaugh (discusscontribs) 18:05, 23 August 2016 (UTC) Jessewaugh (discusscontribs) 18:05, 23 August 2016 (UTC)Reply

feel free to post your academic book at Wikiversity, we'll be more than happy to accept it :-) --Atcovi (Talk - Contribs) 18:34, 23 August 2016 (UTC)Reply
