Johnson Reservoir Rec Site
Overview
The Johnson Reservoir Rec Site is located within the Fish Lake Basin, in Sevier County, Utah. Johnson Reservoir (also known as Johnson Valley Reservoir) is a relatively shallow impoundment located just a short distance north of Fish Lake. It is known for Rainbow trout, Tiger muskellunge and White sucker fish. The rec site offers a boat ramp and allows the use of small, motorized boats. The site is located approximately 23 miles from Loa, Utah, and 50 miles from Richfield, Utah.
Facilities
Vault toilet bathrooms and a boat ramp are available at the rec site. Paiute Campground is located adjacent to Johnson Reservoir and is ideal for groups or individual campers.
Natural Features
The area has large aspen stands and mixed conifer. The lake and basin views make this a beautiful place to spend a weekend fishing.
Recreation
Popular activities in the area include fishing, OHV trail riding, wildlife and bird viewing, and hiking. Johnson Reservoir is seasonally accessible by paved county road from Fish Lake (southwest), Mill Meadow Reservoir (southeast), or Salina Canyon (north).
General Information
The parasite that causes whirling disease is known to occur in Johnson Reservoir. Please prevent the spreawd of whirling disease by throoughly cleaning mud from your waders after fishing here and letting them dry completely before wading at another location. Do not transport fish or their parts from Johnson Reservoir to other waters.

- Pack out all trash and follow Leave No Trace principles.
- Use designated vault toilets to protect the natural environment and wildlife.
- Use existing sites and park only on durable surfaces (not vegetation)
- Stay on designated roads, and trails as shown on kiosk and designated forest service maps.
- All OHVs are required to be registered and display a permit or sticker for riding on public lands.
- The use of small, motorized boats is allowed on Johnson Valley Reservoir.
Boating at Johnson Reservoir requires a valid Utah boating safety certificate for anyone 12 and older operating a motorboat. All boaters, including those with non-motorized watercraft, must also complete the annual mussel-aware boater course and have proof of completion readily available. - Pets must be leashed at all times within this recreation area. This policy is in place to ensure the safety and enjoyment of all visitors and to protect wildlife.
- Clean up dog waste and dispose of it properly.
- Keep dogs from chasing, harassing, and disturbing wildlife, livestock or other visitors.
- Yield to other hikers, horses, and other trail users by stepping off the trail and controlling your dog.

Directions
Johnson Reservoir Rec Site is located approximately 50 miles southeast of Richfield, Utah and 23 miles from Loa, Utah.
From Richfield, head east on E 300 N toward N 100 E for 0.8 miles. Take a slight right onto UT-119 east for 8.8 miles. Turn right onto UT-24 east for another 23 miles, then turn left onto UT-25 N for 10 miles. Continue on FR-640 for 6.3 miles, then straight on FR-036 for 1 mile. The entrance will be located on the right.
From Loa, Utah head north on Main Street toward 70 North. Turn right onto UT-72 N/E 500 N. Continue to follow UT-72, turning left to stay on this route for approximately 8.4 miles. Next, turn left onto 1920 North Fremont River Road for 1.5 miles, continuing onto FR-036. The entrance to Johnson Reservoir Rec Site is located on the right side of the road.
