David Case - Acting Inspector General

David Case is the Acting Inspector General of the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Office of Inspector General (OIG). He began his career at VA as the Deputy Inspector General on April 2, 2018. Mr. Case ensures the OIG produces high-quality, fair, and accurate oversight by directing a nationwide staff of more than 1,100 auditors, investigators, inspectors, data analysts, and support personnel. He develops strategic collaborations with other federal agencies. He coordinates OIG-wide initiatives on highly complex and technical oversight programs, such as community care, electronic health record modernization, and financial management. He frequently testifies before Congress and provides valuable insight to VA leaders and national advocates for veterans.
Prior to joining the OIG, Mr. Case was a partner at the law firm of K&L Gates. He joined K&L Gates in 1984 and served from 2008 to 2018 as the managing partner of the Washington, DC, office and as a member of K&L Gates’ Management Committee. While at K&L Gates, Mr. Case focused on trial work and litigation in financial services, insurance coverage, government contracts, and toxic tort. Before joining K&L Gates, Mr. Case was a judge advocate in the United States Marine Corps and served as a law clerk to the Honorable R. James Harvey, United States District Judge for the Eastern District of Michigan.
Mr. Case earned his juris doctor, bachelor of arts, and master of arts degrees from the University of Michigan.
