Emergency Response Reviews
Emergency response reviews encompass various types of assessments, including an Early Action Review (EAR), an Intra-Action Review (IAR) and an After Action Review (AAR).
EAR, IAR and AAR, collectively referred to as Action Reviews (ARs), are country-led processes that aim to identify challenges, best practices and lessons learned from the response to a public health event, emergency, or a humanitarian crisis by the country. These reviews support health systems learning and provide insights that are further integrated into frameworks such as the National Action Plans for Health Security (NAPHS), thus optimizing preparedness initiatives and contributing to continuous improvement and resilience.
Early Action Reviews
An EAR serves as an agile performance enhancement methodology. It scrutinizes the efficiency of initial detection measures and subsequent response actions to public health events, irrespective of their scale. Its implementation fosters adaptive changes in workflow strategies and actions. It leverages the 7-1-7 metrics to optimize early disease detection, timely notification, and swift response actions in public health contexts.
Intra Action Reviews
After Action Reviews
An After Action Review is a qualitative review of actions that are taken to respond to an emergency or a public health event as a means of identifying best practices and areas for improvement to be better prepared for the future. It helps to assess the functionality of national capacities for preparedness and response to health emergencies.
