Aims and scope

BMC Sports Science, Medicine and Rehabilitation is an open access, peer reviewed journal that considers articles on all aspects of sports medicine and the exercise sciences, including rehabilitation, traumatology, cardiology, physiology, and nutrition.

The journal welcomes manuscripts in the following broad areas of sports and exercise research:

  • Injury prevention and sports traumatology
  • Exercise physiology and performance
  • Musculoskeletal rehabilitation and recovery
  • Cardiovascular responses to exercise
  • Sports nutrition and metabolism
  • Biomechanics and movement analysis
  • Adaptation to training and physical stress
  • Return-to-play protocols and decision-making
  • Psychological aspects of sports performance and recovery
  • Exercise interventions for chronic disease management
  • Technological innovations in sports monitoring and rehabilitation
  • Population-specific exercise science (e.g., youth, aging, elite athletes)
  • Health promotion through physical activity
  • Epidemiology of sports injuries and physical activity trends

As a BMC Series journal, BMC Sports Science, Medicine and Rehabilitation does not make editorial decisions based on the perceived interest or potential impact of a study. Manuscripts are considered for publication if they are scientifically valid. For research articles, this includes having a clearly defined and sound research question, appropriate methodology and analysis, and adherence to community-agreed standards relevant to the field.
