Craig Barrett Co-chairman of the Skolkovo Foundation Council Born on August 29, 1939 in San-Francisco (CA), USA. In 1957-64 attended Stanford University (Palo-Alto, CA), and received a Bachelor, Master and Ph.D. in Materials Science. In 1964-65 Dr. Barrett was NATO Postdoctoral Fellow at the National Physical Laboratory in England, and in 1972 he was a Fulbright Fellow to the Technical University of Denmark. In 1974 Dr. Barrett was employed by Intel Corporation as a manager. Then he was promoted to Vice President of the corporation in 1984; to Senior Vice President in 1987, and Executive Vice President in 1990. Dr. Barrett was elected to Intel Corporation's Board of Directors in 1992 and was named the company's Chief Operating Officer in 1993. He became Intel's fourth President in May 1997, and Chief Executive Officer in 1998. On July 20, 1999 Dr. Barrett was appointed by the Minister of Education of the USA member of The National Commission for Mathematics and Science Teaching for the 21st Century. At the beginning of 2009 he announced that he would be stepping down as Chairman and member of the board in Intel to focus on a program World Ahead, which works to bring technologies to developing parts of the world. Also Dr. Barrett served as Chairman of the United Nations Global Alliance for Information and Communication Technologies and Development. |
