Metadata & Discovery Services
High-quality metadata is the key to ensuring the best discoverability of our publications. That is why we are committed to providing you with accurate, up-to-date information – easily accessible to you.
We offer metadata for all electronic products and packages in the following formats free of charge: MARC, KBART, ONIX 2.1 and 3.1. If you have any questions, our Customer Service Team is always happy to help
MARC
The MARC format (Machine-Readable Cataloging) is strongly oriented towards the needs of libraries: It contains highly detailed and precise metadata that is invaluable for cataloging and long-term archiving.
To obtain the MARC records you need, choose from the following options:
- Use our data management portal "DG Data" to download MARC data for all your licensed books. You will find the download function in the holdings list. If you would like to register for DG Data, please contact our Sales Operations Team.
- Of course, we are also happy to assist you personally with individual requests! If you require MARC records for complete eBook packages, individual eBook orders (Pick&Choose model), eJournals, as well as Online Resources, please use our Metadata Order Form.
- You can access De Gruyter's catalog data via our partners and major library networks such as OCLC, ExLibris, ProQuest, GBV, BVB, HEBIS, SWB and ABES.
KBART
Data in the Knowledge Base and Related Tools (KBART) format is optimized for knowledge bases, making it less complex than MARC data, but clearly structured and easy to integrate.
Do you need KBART data? Please contact our Customer Service to receive access to our bi-weekly update KBART files.
Can't find what you're looking for? Don't worry! We're here to help. Please use our order form to request KBART lists for complete eBook packages, individual eBook orders (Pick & Choose model), eJournals and Online Resources.
ONIX
ONIX is an XML-based standard for the exchange of highly differentiated metadata for books. We use it primarily to provide data for the book trade. In addition to title metadata for printed books and eBooks, our ONIX records also contain bibliographic information and special additional information for commercial purposes.
We regularly send our ONIX data to:
- VLB
- German partners / wholesalers
- CoreSource
We use CoreSource to deliver our ONIX data worldwide. If you would like to receive an ONIX feed, please get in touch with our metadata team.
Discovery Services
Discovery Services are advanced search systems which enable library users to access a broad range of resources. They function as a central platform for research and enhance the discoverability of content by consolidating multiple data sources within one interface.
To ensure the global visibility of our publications, we collaborate with various Discovery Services and regularly provide them with our JATS and BITS data (daily), MARC data (daily) and KBART data (bi-weekly).
We partner with discovery services such as:
We also make our titles and collections available in WorldCat, a worldwide knowledge database supported by OCLC. The OCLC library network updates its list of available collections every month. You can use their list to find out exactly which of our collections is available.
We also work with almost all Abstracting and Indexing (A&I) services and provide them with up-to-date JATS and BITS data daily. For more information, please visit our page about Abstracting & Indexing.
